Esther was born and raised in Michigan. She received her B.S. from the University of Michigan, completing study in pre-medicine. After traveling extensively throughout Asia and Southeast Asia, she completed graduate studies in biology, began teaching high school biology and tutoring University of Michigan athletes. While maintaining a keen interest in the sciences, she began primarily working and living as an artist.

Esther exhibited art created in many different media in art fairs and various gallery venues and spent several years living and working as an artist in New York City.

Esther returned to Ann Arbor where she continued her art work. There, she was the director of the Michigan Guild Gallery for five years and, in addition to creating her own art and doing environmental advocacy work, she taught printmaking, and was involved in a variety of community related art projects.

Esther was involved in the annual Ann Arbor Film Festival for seven years as a documentary screener and as the director for the art installations for the historic Michigan Theater.

Back in New York City since 2010, Esther has been making art in her studio in Brooklyn.
